Texas Mutual launches first-of-its-kind claims apprenticeship program
As a best company to work for in Texas, we are committed to our employees and stepping up as a good corporate citizen for our communities. With a projected talent gap for the insurance industry’s future workforce and a need to bridge the disparities in post-secondary education among diverse populations, we developed a work-based learning program to establish a new talent pipeline with students who may not have had access to our jobs before. We are proud to announce that we have launched the Texas Mutual Claims Apprenticeship Program at our Houston regional office.
The program brings in students from diverse income and educational backgrounds for the opportunity to learn at Houston Community College (HCC) while also earning a full-time salary as a Texas Mutual employee. Claims assistant apprentices will be able to earn and learn by receiving on-the-job training while taking classes, covered by Texas Mutual, toward an AAS Business Management degree at HCC. Apprentices will learn the basics of workers’ comp insurance, support our claims team, complete the Texas Workers’ Compensation licensing class and exam, and more.
We have also partnered with the Greater Houston Apprenticeship Network, which has helped us to implement the program. The network convenes local businesses, nonprofit organizations and community colleges to fully support students to ensure they have everything they need to be successful.
This first-of-its-kind program was created through the collaboration of our claims, community affairs, customer engagement and human resources teams. We are invested in helping build the workforce of tomorrow and excited to launch this apprenticeship program to help create a talent pipeline that is diverse, loyal and equipped to serve our customers across the state. We encourage you to share the news of our new apprenticeship program and help us spread the word about this opportunity.
